Artist's statement...

I am having so much fun painting in watercolors! I love the vibrancy of the colors and the varied effects that watercolors can produce. Since I am not formally trained as a watercolorist, I feel free to experiment and play. I enjoy pushing each surface to find out what I can and can’t do with it.

I have discovered that my two favorite surfaces to paint on are hot press paper and canvas. On them I can move the paint, rub and smooth it to get overlaying colors, stamp and reverse stamp with hand carved designs. I can blend, shade, draw and lift highlights. I can mask, spray, texture and create effects that would be impossible with any other paint or surface.

When I am finished with a canvas I fix the paint with UV protective spray. This helps prevent the colors from fading and makes the surface waterproof. If I have painted on paper, I then mat and frame it.

I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoyed creating it.
